How to exclude ref part from assembly when uploading into windchill ?

I have an assembly which has more than 100 parts. Almost 20 out of 100 parts are constrained using one particular part as a reference . And the same part I don't want to upload into windchill ?

If it not possible as per windchill methodology , I don't want to create wt part for the the particular part after uploaded into windchill . Also I want to create wt part for the remaining parts except that reference part.

Because we used that particular part only for reference to other part to be assembled .

Ex:

Engine.asm

A.prt

B.prt

Z.part

The above mentioned "B" part as a reference part , based on that the part number e,f & many part will get assembled . At present I am hiding "B" part in assembly model tree .

Is it possible for a user to view the contents of another user's workspace? Scenario: UserA wants to create a PDF representation of a current xml file. When UserA tries to do this they get a message asking if they want to use an older version\iteration. An older version\iteration exists in UserB's workspace. In order to create the representation, UserA needs to find out the identify of UserB and have them remove the older version\iteration from their workspace. How would UserA go about finding the identify of UserB and is it possible for UserA to remove the file from UserB's workspace? I'm assuming that UserA would require "superuser" or "admin" permission to do this. Let me know if any of the above is possible. Thanks.

Hi all,

I'm rather new to Windchill, and I am attempting to install the Windchill application in a monolithic development environment. I have been having problems with the Solution installer. It only goes so far then it aborts. I found the log file and following is the last operation attempted before the installer abborted:

Critical Microsoft Update for IE10 make PDMLink 10.1M040 having problem

on 9th July 2014, Microsoft released a critical update for IE10. After this got applied, our users complained that PDMLink did not work correctly.

Comment from one of our users

When clicking on the information icon for anything, document, Promotion Request etc and window pops up saying "Windows Internet Explorer has stopped working & needs to restart".

Once page comes back (with the page I was after loaded) a message on the bottom of the page saying that something on the webpage is causing the webpage to shut down (or words to that effect).

Has someone else experienced this ? What should we expect. A new patch from Microsoft or PTC ?

Windchill 10.1 M030 , NX 7.5

The new function VFS is useful to define the NX Library(Include UDF). When the WGM using Chinese menu. The virturl folder is named with chinese. But the NX 7.5 cannot support the Chinese folder name.

The folder name as following : D:\ptc\PTC_Places\demo01.ptcnet.ptc.com\存储库\NX_Lib\UDF

The NX does not support Chinese folder name even in NX 8.5.

So the VFS of Windchill WGM need an option to set the virturl folder name to English.

I'm investigating the use of the WGM with Inventor.

The Inventor files carry a number of custom parameters of which some have a parameter name that contains a blank space, e.g. 'Treatment process"

Problem now is how to define a Windchill attribute (in version 10.2) so I can capture the value of this parameter.

Any parameter that has a name which does not carry a special character and so complies to the rules of Windchill attribute definition can be captured easily (either implicitly or explicitly).

when i try to add a user or group to role in Team, i got the "Attention : The identifying information for the objects being processed is corrupted." msesasge pop up and operation was not complete.

Same thing happens when i try to remove the user/group from team.

i am using windchill 10.1M040.

I checked MS log, but no realted error, message was not found.

Please any one can help me to fix this issue.

Hello,

we have users which work on a lot of different small projects. In every project, another group of CAD documents has to be viewed and/or edited. Therefore we have users with >20 workspaces. Users with lots of workspaces and/or a lot of data in the cache tend to have a lower performance and more problems with the Workgroup Manager. Switching workspaces often can also cause problems with our 3rd party CAD system (Inventor).

Is there a way to remember which objects were collected in a workspace? In this case, the user could keep the number of workspaces low and add all relevant objects easily to a new workspace, when additional work has to be done on the project.

In Windchill 10.1, Promotion Request get terminated automatically even approvers Approve it, but its shows Rejected status.

It gives "Promotion Request validation Error" on e-mail message.

Nothing find related in MS logs.

How we can resolve this issue.

Please guide us.

Hi,

I am in the process of upgrading from 9.1 M070 to 10.2 M020.

My company use a lot of custom classes. All of these have compiled successfully - thankfully. However one reported a warning because the following method is now deprecated (and this doesnt appear in the latest Javadoc, no reference of the method does and certainly no reference of what to use instead):

wt.change2.VersionableChangeItem.getCreator();

Now when I look at "wt.change2._VersionableChangeItem" there is another "getCreator()" method that the above seems to override. I think I can use this method. However, this begs the question, what is the point of the underscore classes? Are we supposed / "allowed" to use them - in some programming languages (e.g. Python) prefixing "_" is another way of saying "please leave well alone"?

For a product that has multiple external collaborating entities (suppliers, design partners) , there is only a single project related to the product and multiple folders are created for managing suppliers with in the same project. say folder1 for supplier1. folder2 for supplier2, folder3 for designPartner3 etc... And collaborating partner users have access only to their folders.

And there is often a business need to share the same design data with multiple partners. Which means that we need to be able to share the same data to multiple folders in the same project, which in Windchill 10.1 OOTB seems to be restricted for now.

Is anyone aware of any solution for this? Or is there a better strategy for handling multiple partners than using multiple folders?

Windchill ProjectLink 10.0 pre-production (C000) has just been released and this is the opportunity for me to introduce some of the new features of Windchill ProjectLink supporting the design outsourcing process and particularly concurrent alternative design.

This includes the ability to :

Check-out design data multiple times to multiple projects
Identify and resolve potential identity conflicts in the project for CAD documents before sending them to PDM.
Clearly see from the object information page all the projects and folders location where an object is shared, checked-out, sent to PDM , superseded or abandoned.

Optionally provide a visual indication when an object shared is out of date.
Allow selective update of out of date objects in a project folder.
Create a baseline in a project

By the way, when sharing an object from PDMLink to ProjectLink use "Copy / Paste" instead of "Add to project" action .. it is simpler and more efficient , particularly if you want to share to multiple projects (check out http://communities.ptc.com/videos/1614 )

Referential Integrity error: while trying to delete a child object

I received an error saying that I am unable to delete the "child" object because it is being used by another source. Basically an older version/iteration of the "child" is being used by another xml file. I am wondering if there is a way around this? Is there a way for me to delete ALL the child object's versions/iterations even though they are referenced by another source? None of the versions/iterations are required.

Greetings,

We have a user who says that changes to SolidWorks CAD files saved to his Windchill PDMLink 10.1 workspace did not get saved.

He spent a few hours updating a drawing yesterday, saved to his workspace and now this morning he says the work was not saved?

On the Windchill side the object has been revised and is checked out at E.0. So in Windchill, there are no updated files.

In his workspace I see the same E.0.

Is there a different location to see the change history?

Any ideas?

Why is the Process Name added to the task name? This causes unnecessary clutter. It seems like this should be a preference to turn on or off, but when I opened a PTC case about it, they gave me a custom java file to put into /codebase/... and compile it as a work-around. The case has currently been passed up the chain a little bit, and also sent to the Customization team of PTC Support.

Is it seriously a customization to remove this back out? If this was introduced, it should've been introduced with the option to turn it off. I don't understand why some people might want to see it.

In Windchill Projectlink 10.1 F000 when I am converting a Classic Project Plan to EPP then I am unable to Create new

Activities. When I create new Activity the Page is comes blank and there is only one Checkbox with mark activity as milestone. Nothing gonna happen with this. The major problem is by default in this version of Windchill ProjectLink F000 we can start to make directly an EPP. First when we create a plan, it's a Classic. Kindly help.

Noob With ProE, Help Needed

Hey everyone,

I just recently started an engineering internship and this company uses ProE WF4. I don't have any CAD work under my belt except for a semester at Purdue. I am having some troubles and can't seem to find a solution. I've tried looking around the forums with no luck, probably because I don't think it should be that hard to fix.

Anyhow, my troubles are as follows. I created a sheetmetal part then flattened all of it using the unbend function in the right-hand side toolbar. I flattened the entire part to make a sketch on the flat surface in which I was trying to cut away some slots. the slots I was trying to cut away do go through a bend although my part fails to generate when I rebend the part (supress the unbend feature).

Am I going about this the wrong way? I really get caught up with some of the nit-picky things in ProE, the software we used at Purdue sure seemed a lot more straight forward but I'm sure this software has its advantages as I'm aware it's used throughout many companies. I know it's probably a dumb question but I've been stuck for a few hours now. I thought of it like how it would be manufactured in the fact that the slots would be cut away before the part was bent. Does this make sense? I can upload pictures if need be. Appreciate any and all help in advance.
