A few notes about using the help center (for those unfamiliar):

  • It's supported for IE and Firefox. (In my opinion, it's best viewed in Firefox)
  • You can view it in Chrome, but be advised that table borders won't render in Chrome.
  • The help center can be frustrating if you're not aware of the Show in Table of Contents action:

What are the potential reasons for the "Local files are out of date with workspace" status when using the UWGM?

Beside the status "Out of date with Commonspace" we get the "Local Files are out of date with workspace" status when we use the UWGM with solidWorks.

Windchill Save As

Guys.. i have a problem, that i wonder if you can help..  i have a part, and i modify it.. and change it.. save it.  then decided i wanted to give it a new part number.  so, i save as, a new part number.. no problem.  however.  i want to duplicate the drawing with this part..

 

so.. i go into workspace.. select the old part, which is modified in my workspace.. and the drawing which is not modified yet.  i do a save as, and i get an error, saying i cant save as, because the part is modified locally.  whats up with that?  i can do a save as of the modified model, in the creo environment, but i cant do it in the windchill workspace?

How do I upload a .pcf file onto my Windchill server?

I have existing files uploaded in 9.1, but I cannot figure out how to do it in 10.2.   I even tried a saveas, but I have no way to edit it or get new content uploaded.

However, I'm fairly new to Java although I'm familiar with Object Oriented Programming in C++ and VB .NET.


How much Java do I need to know before taking up this track? Is it enough if I'm well versed with OOP?


Where would you place this track on a scale of difficulty (Low, Mid, High)?

Thumbnails for Windchill Documents

I have the following problem:

 

If i create a document in windchill i can attach primary content as well as attachments. What i would like to have is a thumbnail for this document.

My problem is:

The only way that i can see to create a thumbnail is by publishing the document which creates a representation and a thumbnail for that representation. But this is exactly not what i want to have. If you click on the thumbnail the representation will be shown and not the primary content file and also not the attachment -- Additionally the representation is stored as an additional File aside the primary content

 

I simply want to to have a thumbnail which opens creo view showing the primary content and the attachments ( This works very well as long there is no representation attached to the document.)

 

Please tell me your experiences

Anyone setup PTC Navigate on Thingworx yet?

I have it 90% setup I think.  When I activate the single sign on it bounces to my windchill server to login in.  It then bounces back to my Thingworx server but I get an error.  Error is to many redirects.  I thought this might just be a browser issue but I have tried all the tricks for fixes I found on line.  As you can guess they did not work.  Any help would be great.  FYI it does kind of work if I don't turn on single sign on.  Although I my search results are hit and miss.  I am on Windchill 10.2 M020.


Is there any way to send Windchill reports on a schedule as email attachments?

Is there any way to automatically run a Windchill report on a schedule and send it out as an email attachment or embedded in the email body?

A Data Monitor will run the report, but it only sends an email with a link to the results in Windchill. I would like a report that can be distributed without requiring a Windchill login.

Currently we use Excel VB to run the reports on schedule and distribute, but it would be nice to do this natively with WC OOTB or with some custom code.

Relationship Report 'as stored' compare to 'Latest:Working'

Hello all,

 

Creo Parametric 2.0, PDMLink 10.2, M020-CPS14 (new place, 'new' system)

 

In this system, if a sub-component is checked out / checked in, the Creo drawing Relationship Report can show a disconnect between the 'as stored' and the 'latest' version. I understood that they should be the same version if everything is checked in.

 

for example: model xyz (checked in) 'latest' -.4, 'as stored' -.3.

maybe there is something I am not understanding.

10.1 M050 end user Problems

We update to M050 as we had problems with nightly restart after backups with 040. PTC informed us that M050 will resolve the issue.

 

I installed M050 on a test server and tested same again on Production over the weekend. I test on several machines with different configuration. No problems.

 

Monday morning key users had problems. Two problems, the Java Upload (drag and drop) was not working (and so browse did not work). I switched those users to Browse to upload files.

 

Problem two was a show stoppers. Doc Control could not see the Resulting Items section during Edit on the Implementation plan!

 

They could if they downloaded Chrome and used that - again no drag and drop.

Change Object number in Workflow task notification subject

Hi all,
          We are using Windchill 9.1. OOTB email notifications for the
workflow task notifications have generic subject with Activity name such
'Approve task' , 'Review task'.
I am trying to find a way to add the ECR/ECN number to the subject such as
'ECR-1234 Approve task', 'ECN-2345 Review task'.   I am wondering if there
is any way of extending notification processors and add this to all the
tasks.
Any pointers will be helpful.

Hi,

I need some guidance for workflow code to get name of the Product, where EPM or WT Document is located.

I need to include document location (Product name) as Promotion task notification email subject. I know how to customize task notification email template, but I also need document location.

10.2 M030 CPS10 - Has anyone been able to compile the CATIA V5-6R2015 WGM Abstraction dll's?

Hi,

 

We have just updated our TEST System to 10.2 M030 CPS10 (only released today) and I am trying to compile the CATIA V5 Abstraction dll's for the WGM.

 

I have successfully compiled dll's for CATIA versions 18 to 24, but version 25 fails with the error saying "ERROR - Abstraction or loader files don't exist"

 

It seems a bit strange when setting up the compilation environment as the CATVBTsetup command does not show a Visual Studio checkbox, only showing an Eclipse/IBM Rational Applications one, which I think is indicative that something is wrong (presumably with the CATIA / API / RADE) software - but I have tried this with both GA and SP3 versions of the CATIA software and get the same issue. In which case, others should be seeing this problem too.

 

I have logged a call with PTC, but was wondering if anyone else had seen this?

CAD worker Failure Notification

Our Windchill CAD Worker does seem to have a habit of failing at regular intervals. Whilst it is easy to rectify the problem, it can be a major inconvenience if you do not quickly discover the failure. The delay can often result in thousands of jobs that need to be resubmitted and a knock on effect with new jobs also being delayed whilst the backlog is cleared.

 

So for sometime I have been trying to develop a notification tool that will "push" a notification to me by email as soon as the CAD Worker fails. After limited success with custom scripts, I stumbled across a ready-made solution in Windchill that was right under my nose. So just in case any other forum members have been struggling with the same problem, here is my solution.

 

I have discovered that you can in fact setup a Windchill subscription on an entire product context that will detect when the CAD Worker fails on a CAD document. The beauty of this is that you can easily manage the circulation list for notification, you can also have different notifications on a product-by-product basis and have the notification delivered according to a schedule.

 

I’ve outlined the method below, just in case you are interested in giving it a go yourself.

 

All comments welcome.

 

  • Browse products and click View All.
  • Right click on the target context and select Subscribe.
  • Give the subscription a name and then click on the search button next to the Type field.

  • Select CAD Document and click OK.

  • Select event type Publish Unsuccessful and Life Cycle states All.

  • Setup the rest of the subscription as usual. I have my notification delivered according to schedule to avoid being bombarded with emails!!

When Creo publishing starts failing,is it possible to set up an alert/notification to administrators so that corrective action can be performed before a long queue of failed jobs accumulate?

Barcode Scanner Integration with PDMLink

Dear All,

 

We are looking to automatically transfer data captured by barcode scanners into Windchill PDMLink. Some of the scanners we use are Koamtac and Cognex, and we scan UID labels (similar to RFID labels) on our parts. Just wondering if this is possible, and how to do it. Would appreciate any input you can provide on this topic.
