How to clear/remove the unsuccessful migration data from Data base

$

Am migrating a data from Pro/Intralink 3.4 to PDMLink 9.1 system using Pro/Intralink Data Migrator.  While running the Document loader I found the Revision Series mapped for migration was wrong. We noticed it within minutes and aborted the migration. Then I mapped the correct Revision Series and restarted the migration.

Now the Migrator took the right Revision Series and ran till Family Tables Loader. However we later noticed that 2 Family Tables did not get migrated as it threw an exception in the logs. While investigating that issue we found that some more objects did not get migrated at all though we couldn’t trace the errors in the logs for the missing objects.  Now we need to guidance to solve the issue so that we can proceed with the migration.

doc2pv.exe crashes when publishing

Hi All,

I've set up the office worker on a separate server using the Adobe Experience Manager. The Worker Daemon is started from a CMD Window and not set as a service.

While publishing the doc2pv.exe application crashes.

Details: Windchill 10.2

            Creo View Adapters 3.0

            Adobe Experience Manager 6

The application crashes while publishing an Excel Doc (see attachment) . For Word the job fails directly with the following error:

17.08.2016 09:55:39:Failed to publish document file "D:/FTP/worker/w1i1j6/test.docx" to "D:/FTP/worker/w1i1j6/test_docx.pdf"

"Open in Creo" from browser opens 2nd Creo session

Creo 2

PDMLink 10.1 M050

I have users that sometimes have both Creo open logged into PDMLink and a separate IE browser logged into PDMLink.

If they use the "Open in Creo" in Creo to open another CAD file it will use the existing session.  However, if they do the same thing through IE it will open a 2nd Creo session.

Is there a way to stop that?  I don't want to disassociate the .pha file as a solution because I assume it would remove it from being usable through Creo.  I want to know how to make the "Open in Creo" check if Creo is already running and then use that session.

How to add new column (Combo Box) in Change Task Resultant Objects table ?

I got a requirement to add a combo box on Chnage task Resultant objects table .

I have tried the following but no possible results.

1.I have extended "ResultingItemsTableBuilder" commented some attributes .My class is getting called but

(Ex:

//jcacolumnconfig = (JcaColumnConfig)componentconfigfactory.newColumnConfig("crDescription", true);

  // jcacolumnconfig.setComponentMode(ComponentMode.valueOf(changewizardbean.getChangeMode()));

  // jcatableconfig.addComponent(jcacolumnconfig);

)

Still I can see the attribute on Screen . I have even commented from "ChangeTaskResultingItemsTableViews" by extened replacing my custom ChangeTaskResultingItemsTableViews" class in service.properties. (Still crDescription is getting populated. )

2.I tried a add new column

jcacolumnconfig = (JcaColumnConfig)componentconfigfactory.newColumnConfig("arDescription", true);

  jcacolumnconfig.setComponentMode(ComponentMode.valueOf(changewizardbean.getChangeMode()));

  jcacolumnconfig.setDataUtilityId("arDescription");

  jcatableconfig.addComponent(jcacolumnconfig);

By Providing setDataUtilityId .But Still I can't see the new column on UI. {for this new attribute also I have added entry in ChangeTaskResultingItemsTableViews}.

Some one help me on this Please.

I have a user of Windchill who needs to use assistive technology as he can't use a mouse. I was hoping that there is a way that he could navigate Windchill either using voice activation software, or use the keyboard to navigate Windchill.

Change Request email notifications

In the change request process we have nodes for various groups that need to approve the change request before it can go to CCB for approval. The task notices show up in their task list in Windchill, but not an email notification. What needs to be set so each group gets email notifications?

Single Sign-On for Windchill with Apache, Shibboleth, and ADFS - Has Anyone Done This Before?

I am picking up an in-process project of configuring SSO with the software mentioned in the question, and as I dive in I wanted to put out a question to the user community here to see if anyone has implemented this within their environment, and if so, could provide any helpful details/information as I go forward.  Even if not the exact same software environment, but configuring SSO in general, that would be a significant help.

Thanks in advance!

.asm structure including merged parts

When looking at the structure tab of a .asm file, it doesn't show any of the merged models. Is there a way to show this?

We have many cases where a forging is merged into a .prt to create the machining features. Of course, .prt files don't have a structure tab, However, in the related objects tab in the References table it does show the forging used.

I have been unable to figure out how to show the forging (related object) int he structure tab of my assemblies. We know the link is tracked by Windchill, so now we just need it to show an accurate assembly structure.

Any ideas or hints?

OIR Folder setting

Before I open a call with PTC to report this as a bug, I want to see if others are having the same issue.

The CS article states that you can change the folder location for things like promotion requests, change requests, change notices, parts, etc.

https://support.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/solution.jsp?n=CS21487

I have modified my OIR for Promotion Requests to use folder.id of /Default/Promotion Requests/2016. This works fine.

I have done the same for Change Requests, /Default/Change/Change Requests/2016. This also works.

When I set Change Notice to use /Default/Change/Change Notice/2016, change notices fail to be created and I get an error. As soon as I reload the OIR with only /Default for the folder, I can create a change notice.

Shouldn't the folder.id setting work the same across all types of data?

Hi All,

How do we performing testing in Classification Tree?

Say in my case there are more than 200 levels with every level having a child node and a sub child node with their own attributes, inherited attributes, constraints etc. So in this case how do I automate the testing ? Or do I need to manually check the entire classification tree.

If there is any way to automate the testing process thereby developing a utility ? Can anyone please let me know about it once.

Best Regards.

Biggest "Optimization" Windchill Performance Issues?

$

In similar light of my question yesterday regarding "Binary" performance issues ...

I’ve noticed that there are a lot of Windchill performance issues associated with problems I call “Optimization” issues:  something is functioning, but not to the level of quantity/quality/speed expected or desired.

Optimization problems are typically associated with system configuration issues.  For example…

  1. Long times to open/check-out/save objects (particularly large EPMDocuments
  2. Slow speeds / intermittent connectivity between master site and replica sites
  3. Variance in response time of general Windchill browsing and lightweight tasks over the course of the workday
  4. Resource/time impact during backup procedures
  5. Other similar system configurations …

What is your experience with “Optimization” problems?

How would you rank the above issues (or other issues you experience) relative to their impact on application performance as a whole (Most common to least common)?

Are there other important “Optimization” scenarios that I’ve missed?

What are the most detrimental “Optimization” performance issues in your Windchill installation that you are experiencing today?

This is also part of the list of Windchill performance management priorities I am assembling for my boss.  Thanks again for your help!

ProjectLink server not being recognized by supplier

Hello all!

We are use Windchill ProjectLink to share our CAD documents with our suppliers.  We are having issues where the supplier goes through the steps to register a new server and after they click "CHECK" nothing happens.  The server doesn't show up in server management dialogue box.

We are using Creo 2.0 our supplier is using Creo 3.0 and I believe we are using the same version of Windchill.  Is there a server compatibility issue here?  Any thoughts on avenues to explore to remedy this problem?

Thanks!

PTC Windchill Visualization Services (WVS) and Windchill Queues

$

Introduction

Are you new to Windchill Visualization?  Would you like WVS Jobs to be processed more efficiently or to just have more control over how they are processed?  This blog will cover the fundamental concepts behind WVS Job Processing and how WVS utilizes Windchill Processing Queues to achieve this.  In addition, I have included links to key Technical Support knowledge base articles for your reference.

The primary TS knowledge article CS149619 - How Windchill Visualization Services uses Windchill Queues for processing WVS Jobs.

CS149619-WVSUsesQueue.jpg

WVS Jobs

Since Windchill 10.0 there are three types of WVS Jobs:

  • Publish Jobs - Traditional WVS Publishing
  • Clash Jobs - Batch Interference Detection
  • Print Jobs - Batch Printing

All three WVS Job types are managed and processed using Windchill Processing Queues but WVS utilises these in a unique way.

WVS Queues and Job Processing

At start-up, for Publish Jobs, WVS creates three Prioritized ‘Waiting Queues for High, Medium and Low priority jobs, and a single Numbered ‘Processing’ Queue where the work is actually done.  These together are referred to as the default (unnamed) WVS Queue Set.  WVS also creates similar Queue Sets for processing Clash and Print Jobs but including the respective queue set names, CLASH and PRINT, i.e.:

Queue Set Name

‘default’

CLASH

PRINT

Prioritized ‘Waiting’ Queues

PublisherQueueH

PublisherQueueM

PublisherQueueL

PublisherQueueCLASHH

PublisherQueueCLASHM

PublisherQueueCLASHL

PublisherQueuePRINTH

PublisherQueuePRINTM

PublisherQueuePRINTL

Numbered ‘Processing’ Queues

PublisherQueue1

PublisherQueueCLASH1

PublisherQueuePRINT1

An Administrator can optionally then create additional Numbered ‘Processing’ Queues to which WVS will attempt to distribute the entries from the Prioritized ‘Waiting’ Queues equally, thereby spreading the publishing load across multiple queues in parallel.  Although, if publishing large numbers of small and quick publish jobs (simple parts), only the lower queue numbers will be loaded (Refer to TS knowledge article CS42096).

WVS processes each logical WVS Job using a combination of two physical Windchill Processing Queue Entries:

  • A Prioritized ‘Waiting’ Queue Entry - Target Method queueJob
  • A Numbered ‘Processing’ Queue Entry - Target Method doJob

Note: Clash and Print Jobs do not currently support all the capabilities that are supported for Publish Jobs; for example, Clash and Print Jobs cannot be processed in Dedicated Publisher Queue Set or using Dedicated Workers (see below).

WVS Job Related Queue Entry Processing

The following shows a conceptual diagram of the traditional WVS Publisher Queue mechanism in the context of the overall WVS architecture:

TraditionalWVSPubQueuing.jpg

WVS adds queue entries (that execute the queueJob method) for each newly submitted Publish Job to the relevant Prioritized ‘Waiting’ Queue, based on the type of the content to be processed and source of the request.  The mapped priorities for the type and source combinations can be configured using property settings in the wvs.properties file (refer to TS knowledge base article CS28472).

Note: Similar settings are available for prioritizing Print and Clash Jobs (refer to the wvs.properties.xconf file alongside wvs.properties).

All Windchill processing queues are FIFO (First in First Out) queues.  Queue Entries initially have a READY state when they are created, EXECUTING state when they are being processed and COMPLETED state once processing completed successfully.  Since Windchill 10.0, the NONEVENTFAILED state is used when processing completed but unsuccessfully; the Windchill Queue Entry states COMPLETED and NONEVENTFAILED now map to the WVS Job completion states JOB SUCCESSFUL and JOB FAILED respectively. Refer to TS knowledge article CS37569 for details of the different Windchill Queue Entry states and how to manage the related queue entries.

Queue Entries in the WVS Prioritized ‘Waiting’ Queues are processed one-at-a-time, so there should only ever be one EXECUTING entry in each queue and the rest waiting in the READY state.  All entries in the High priority queue are processed before those in the Medium and all those in the Medium priority queue before those in the Low.  An EXECUTING ‘Waiting’ Queue Entry (queueJob) is simply looking for an idle Numbered ‘Processing’ Queue that has no READY or EXECUTING entries.  When it finds one, it creates a new ‘Processing’ Queue Entry (doJob) within it, initially in a READY state.  The related ‘Waiting’ Queue Entry is then COMPLETED and is automatically removed by the Windchill Queue Service.

Note: Out-of-the-box, this process is repeated every 5 seconds for all ‘Waiting’ Queues in every defined WVS Queue Set, based on the value of the publish.publishqueuepollinterval property in wvs.properties.

Queue Entries in the WVS Numbered ‘Processing’ Queues are also processed one-at-a-time, so there should only ever be one EXECUTING entry in each queue and the rest already processed in the COMPLETED state.  An EXECUTING Queue Entry (that executes the doJob method) will identify and execute the Document Publisher (for WTDocuments) or the respective CAD Publisher (for EPMDocuments) configured using the Authoring Application specific CadConvert properties in wvs.properties, e.g. for Creo Parametric, with an internal Authoring Application of PROE, the publisher class defined by the publish.cadconvert.PROE property is used.  It is the Publisher that controls the execution of the publishing process for its respective CAD application data type.

Upon successful completion of publishing, the ‘Processing’ Queue Entry state is set to COMPLETED and depending on the Numbered ‘Processing’ Queue name and the value of the respective wt.queue.removeCompleted.<QueueName> property in wt.properties, will automatically keep or remove it (refer to TS knowledge base article CS32811).  After publishing is complete, the Publish Job Details log is added to a BLOB data column in the COMPLETED queue entry, so removing the queue entry also removes the logging.  At Windchill 10.0 the new state NONEVENTFAILED was added so that completed unsuccessful Publish Jobs are not automatically deleted by this mechanism.

WVS Dedicated Publisher Queue Sets and Workers Sets

Since Windchill 9.1 M010, WVS has also supported the concept of Dedicated Publisher Queue Sets.  The purpose of this capability is to extend the ability to manage and control specific categories of Publish Jobs using a completely separate and dedicated publisher queue set.  For example, to separate the publishing of Parts, Assemblies and Drawings, or to separate publishing of different CAD authoring application content, so that all the Numbered ‘Processing’ Queues in each dedicated publisher queue set can be dedicated to optimally loading the CAD workers for the same application. These Dedicated Publisher Queue Sets can also be combined with Dedicated Worker Sets for even greater control over which workers should process Publish Jobs from specific Publisher Queue Sets.

For a detailed example configuration, including sample filter code, refer to TS knowledge article CS132318 - Windchill PDMLink 10.0: An example of how to configure WVS Dedicated Publisher Queues and/or Workers to process Publish Jobs based on custom criteria.

I hope you find the information in my blog post interesting and of use.  As always, your comments and feedback are very welcome.

Importing Creo Assemblies into Solidworks issue

$

Hello!

I've ran into an issues sharing CAD with a supplier who is using Solidworks 2016.  The issue seems to be isolated to assemblies where casted/pre-formed parts are inserted/merged into the assembly and additional assembly-based features are used to complete additional “machining” on the casting or pre-form.  When translating these assemblies, I think Solidworks does not have the ability to recognize Creo commands within an assembly.  Thus, when the assembly is imported into Solidworks just the pre-form model shows up with no additional features.

We would like to avoid sending them translated files and would prefer they do direct imports into Solidworks pulling data off Windchill ProjectLink.

I was curious if anybody out there has experienced this problem before and might have recommendations on a fix.  I'm not sure if there is something that I can do on my end to fix this issue.

Thanks!
