Does anyone have a report that will return all running workflows and who (user) they are assigned to? Most of our documents are tied to a workflow and some managers want to know who has been assigned what.
Thanks,
Greg

Hi All,
I want to send email notifications from Windchill to respective users.
So, I want to install and configure Apache James Mail Server For Windchill 10.2 M030.
Can any one guide me for steps to install and configure?
Thanks And Regards

Does anyone know the history with the WTPart Attachment table? It's available to add, but when trying to edit, it says no authorization. Is this residual functionality that PTC has moved away from? We see a value in utilizing the attachments on WTparts for data we don't want as separate objects in the database (we don't want to control it) that is supporting information (like a quote).
Any infromation or help would be MUCH appreciated!!
Thanks,
Janis King
We are looking into implementing the business process of Model Unit Effecitivty and were wondering how many other companies are using Model Unit Effectivity in their business process and how they are accomplishing it ( Do you do MUE in Windchill, ERP tool, etc).
Also, what is your definition of MUE - we have a debate within the company on what MUE means.
What is the industry standard for MUE?
Thoughts?

I'm running Windchill on a Unix server. I try to log something to an external file, but I also print information to the MethodServer at the same time.
I've tried searching the internet for how to change the timestamp (which is essentially GMT, but not technically) to a different timezone, but I have gotten anywhere. But obviously the logging has figured it out somehow.
In Windchill 10.2 a lot of effort has been made to enhance and simplify the user experience when working with WTDocuments from your Microsoft Windows Desktop.
In this blog I will show you some of the enhancements and how they can significantly simplify your interaction with documents stored in your company’s Windchill system.
The PTC Windchill Desktop Integration plugin adds the Windchill Documents system folder to your local environment. You can you use that Windows Explorer Integration to find, open, access and download Windchill documents without the need to open the Windchill web application in a browser.
This will give you a variety of ways to easily access and interact with documents just like they had been stored on your local system:
But I do not want to miss the (in my opinion) most natural way of interacting with documents in Windows – Drag and Drop.
As working with the Explorer Integration should just feel natural, Drag and Drop capabilities have been integrated and with Windchill 10.2 M010 these have even been enhanced.
Dragging a document file from your local system to a context folder under the Windchill Documents node will trigger one of the following actions (depending on the area where you drop the document):
The other direction is supported as well:
Grabbing a document from a Windchill context folder and dragging it to your local system or another Windchill context will trigger corresponding actions depending if modifier keys (Shift and / or Ctrl) are applying and the target the document is dropped (possible actions are copy, move, create shortcut…).
Starting with Windchill 10.2 F000, the right-click menu in Windows Explorer includes a wider range of Windchill actions. While in previous releases only actions such as Open and View Information were available, this expanded to the most commonly used actions on the Windchill web application (even multiselect for Check in, Set State… have been implemented in 10.2 M030).
The right mouse button menu is context sensitive and the actions availability will change depending on the object you open it on. Additional restrictions like access permissions, preferences and so on can have impact on the availability of actions.
My personal highlight is the introduction of the Compare Document functionality in the Windows Explorer integration with Windchill 10.2 F000.
Starting Windchill 10.2 F000 (and enhanced in 10.2 M010) the Desktop integration added compare capabilities. But different to the compare functionality available in the Windchill web application this will concentrate less on comparing metadata but more on comparing the content of the documents.
Out of the box Windchill supports Microsoft Word 2007 and 2010 files and had been extended to Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint in Windchill 10.2 M010 (dedicated support matrix below).
Office Version | Microsoft Excel | Microsoft Word | Microsoft PowerPoint |
---|---|---|---|
2007 | No | Yes | No |
2010 | No | Yes | Yes |
2013 | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Additional file compare tools can be registered based on the file extension in the Windchill Desktop Integration Configuration menu.
There are two different compare actions available:
This will allow you to compare the file content of two different versions of the same document (see screenshot)
This will allow you to compare the content of two different objects, which need to be of the same file type.
This was the first part of my post about productivity enhancements on Windows Explorer Integration.
In the second part I will show you how easy it is to access Windchill Meta data in the Windows Explorer, how this can be adjusted to your needs and how simple it is to find any document with the integrated Windchill search.
If you are in the meantime interested in additional details on the Windchill Explorer Integration, you’ll find further information in the Windchill Help Center.
And as always any questions and comments are appreciated but I definitely would be very interested in your ideas:
Please let me and the community know about it.
Hello,
I would like to know if there any way to add Soft attribute to the User object Type. I am able to see only alias and calculated attributes currently.
I would like to add Global attribute to user type.
Please let me know if it is possible.
Thanks.

I receive three emails every morning at 4:17 AM. First one states that the method server stopping, message is "JMX connection to method server
'BackgroundMethodServer.1388' failed". The second one states the "Method server 'BackgroundMethodServer.1388' removed" and third one Servlet Engine Stopped: Java process removed: 1388@MAPLM. How do I go about troubleshooting? This just started about ten days ago when the windchill server was rebooted.
Thanks for any info you can provide!

I'm interested in linking to files uploaded within Windchill for others to directly access (obtaining a URL to email or embed in a document). I'm referring to things like secondary content, discussion threads, attachments within discussion comments or in a notebook, representations, etc. I can create links to the primary content (documents only not CAD) and to the general details page but these others seem to be hard to do. Any ideas? I'm using Windchill 10.1...
Windchill Users,
I wanted to find out what you think of the new Windchill calendar that has been switched over from java applet in pre-10.2 M030 releases. In particular, with regards to the "Today" button on the calendar.
I had a user who navigated to their 10.2 M030 calendar and wanted to delegate their tasks for today. The user is familiar with other date pickers on websites such as online banking, where pressing the Today button actually selects today. So the user clicked the button, but nothing happened. The user had to explicitly press click on today's date in the calendar before they could start the delegation process.
It is the opinion of the user that the Today button does nothing, and is worthless. The user expects today's date to be selected when clicking the button. In actuality, the button has some value if you're viewing a month other than the current month. Clicking the button at that point will cause you to jump back to the current month. ...which then begs the question... Should the Today button actually be called the Jump to Current Month button since that is the actual function it performs.
In the end, it is just user opinion. I understand. But I have already raised 3 other critical SPRs for this new calendar, and the counter-intuitive behavior of the Today button just adds to the frustration. I'm happy this has been migrated off java applet. But I wish more thought and testing went into this one.
What do you all think of the Today button on the calendar? Am I off my rocker? Or valid point as far as User Experience is concerned?

A user uploaded a large set of files...part, assemblies, and drawings.
They did not check in.
Over a months time, the objects were removed from the workspace AND their cache was deleted and rebuilt.
What happens to the objects uploaded to the server side workspace?
Uploading is said to be a form of backup...a safeguard.
So, how do we get the objects back?
We have multiple documents spread through multiple contexts that we have to use in our day to day work dependent on what task we are performing. Is there a way to favourite these documents or locations so I can easily access them through Windows Explorer with Desktop Integration?
So Google must have pushed out another update that has broken it working with Windchill. When we try to view something in Creo View it gives us the Install Creo View Client or Stop Checking for new versions in the Creo View window. It worked yesterday. It works in IE. Nothing has changed server wise as far as which build I am using. The Chrome version is Version 42.0.2311.90 m. We are on Windchill 10.2 m020 CPS08 and Creo View 3.0 m020. Has anyone else had this happen today? Anyone with a solution?
