Linking previous revisions of parts when opening old assembly

I did a test to see if I can open a previous version of an assembly to see what versions of the parts in that assembly get pulled from Windchill.  I created a new assy with 2 new parts and checked them in (all 3 at a -.1 (dash) state).  I then revised the assembly so all both parts and the assembly went to an A.1 state.  I checked out the 2 parts, made a small change to each and checked them back in as an A.2 state.  So, the assy is at A.1 and both parts are at A.2.

 

When I try to open the previous assembly at the -.1 state, it opens the -.1 state of the assembly but with the A.2 revision of the parts.  Is there a way to link it where when I open the -.1 state of the assy, it also opens the -.1 state of the parts, not the A revision??  I am unable to go in an set the release state so everything is currently in the Design state.  I don't know if that has anything to do with it.  If I was able to lock the release state of the initial assy and parts as Released, would that solve the problem??

rehost utility Clone scenario - LDAP on Target

Attempting to use Rehost Utliity (Windchill 10.2 M020).

 

Have decided to try to use Clone scenario.

 

Guide says for Clone

- Target does not yet have Windchill.  Ok

- Target must already have database (we're using Oracle) software installed and database created (we're doing this now). Ok

- It sort of implies / states that you have to import the database before running the utility so we will do this.  Ok

- It states that the Target LDAP server much be running before running the utility.  We're stuck on this one.  How can one can Windchill Directory Server on the target without installing Windchill on the target?

 

Here is the actual statement (page 69):

"The target system database and LDAP server must be running when you run the Windchill Rehosting Utility."

 

Hopefully there is a simple answer for this - definitely does not seem to be in the guide.

 

Anyone have an actual procedure that they are willing to share about using the Clone scenario?

Is anyone using JIRA to manage development of their Windchill instance? If so, what components are you using?

Is anyone using JIRA to manage custom development, bugs and defects of their Windchill instance?  If so, what components are you using?

We are using it hooked up to SVN to source control our custom code and certain configurations.

I wondered if anyone had a logical list of components that each JIRA ticket (bug, defect) would be written against?

 

Components are a categorization that is used in JIRA might be structured in a variety of ways.

For example, wt parts, wt docs, context templates, etc. or maybe more broad like workflows, customizations...

Looking for any suggestions or a logical breakout that has worked well for you.

Associated Object Revision

I wanted to see how others are handling revision for associated objects in windchill. For example, for every PART, there are mainly 3 objects in windchill that define it. The WTPart, the CAD Model and the CAD Drawing. In my mind, we can sync the REV of all 3 objects or allow all 3 objects to REV independently. But requiring all 3 to REV in sync, it makes sense to me, but may add extra work if we are changing only 1 one of the object - for example a CAD Drawing only note change or a WTPart only change. Having all 3 REV independently would be a bit chaotic since if we derive the BOM from the WTPart and the graphics from the CAD Drawing, do we now have to ask someone, what is the BOM REV and what is the DRAWING REV and have a lookup table to match them up? What rev is used for the downstream applications like ERP? My preference is for all 3 objects to be in sync. Any pitfalls or gotchas by requiring this?

Is it possible to configure PSM to monitor the WBR (Cognos) application as well as the Windchill application?

We have just upgraded to Windchill 10.2 M020 and Cognos 10.2. We've installed the latest PSM version and are configuring the tool to monitor our Windchill installation.  We were wondering if we could configure PSM to also monitor Cognos. We need to monitor how our reports are running when Cognos is in the picture.

How to create multiples attributes in a sub type at the same time ?

Hello

 

I already import a list of soft attributes via Load File. Now I want to create them into a subtype, I can t just create more than once at a time. I have around 30 attributes so It ll take me forever to create it one by one. There are any way to do all at a time??

Creo View messed up with Chrome

So Google must have pushed out another update that has broken it working with Windchill.  When we try to view something in Creo View it gives us the Install Creo View Client or Stop Checking for new versions in the Creo View window.  It worked yesterday.  It works in IE.  Nothing has changed server wise as far as which build I am using.  The Chrome version is Version 42.0.2311.90 m.  We are on Windchill 10.2 m020 CPS08 and Creo View 3.0 m020.  Has anyone else had this happen today?  Anyone with a solution?

Different revision sequence for different contexts

A hypothetical has been lobbed my way and I don't have a concrete answer.

 

We have 20 Contexts and Libraries. They all use a simple revision series; -, A, B, C, etc.

 

The new question I've been asked to explore is whether it's possible to have one (or perhaps more than one) context/library follow a different revision series; -, -1, -2, -3, A, A1, A2, A3, B B1, B2, B3, etc.

 

I feel like I saw something about this being possible some time ago, but I've yet to get any sort of useful results on the eSupport Portal for any query since PTC "upgraded" it awhile back.

 

So, is it possible to have different revision series for different contexts/libraries? If so, where is this outlined?

Description tools on file creation

Hi All,

 

We currently have our Windchill set up to prevent duplicate part numbers from being created. I'm looking to further evolve our systems to remove the need for an external part number database altogether. Are any of the following achievable with Windchill 10.1, please:

 

  • Preventing duplicate part descriptions;
  • Setting a custom field for an abbreviated description that can also prevent duplicates;
  • Setting both fields up to prevent inputs over a certain length.

How to get Resulting Objects before they are Persisted to database?

Hi Experts,

 

     I am trying to get resulting Objects added to the change task before they are persisted to the database, as I am trying to put a constraint on the resulting object. I want only the resulting object having design view to be permitted and if other parts are added it should not allow him to create the change notice. So is there a way I can get the resulting object before they are persisted.

I'm performing installing Windchill Workgroups Manager 10.1 M050 in Client,but it can not connecting to the server (the Server not Supported).

Creo parameters in Windchill

I would like to add Creo designated parameters to show up the column display in Windchill.  I have found where to add the parameters in Manage Global Attributes screen in the Type and Attribute Managment Utility.   What else do I need to do?

Overriding OOTB RB info java file

hello,

 

I need to add one additional option under a drop down. These drop options are read from a RBinfo java file. I am updating this java file manually updated it and compiled it. When i decompile the Class file i do see the new entry in it. But it does not reflect in the Drop down. I am working on Windchill 10.2 M020. I am wondering if there is any change in the functionality of RBinfo file customization for 10.2. However i was not able to find any thing new in Customization guide for 10.2.

This resource bundle is com.ptc.core.htmlcomp.createtableview.createtableviewResource and used for Find Affected Objects.

Below image, I want to add additional option under Select option.

How to detect domain in OIR?

Hi Everyone,

Windchill 10.1 M040.  Is it possible to detect the domain within an OIR?  I need to create some logic to set the proper lifecycle based upon the domain that an EPMDocument is being created in.  Has anyone done this?
